Book Review: Girls in White Dresses

Are they a few of your favorite things?

with blue satin sashes…

If you’re not singing the song from Sound of Music then count yourself one of the few fortunate ones. I’ve been singing it for days with this book sitting out.

Close’s first novel follows three friends (Isabella, Mary, and Lauren) through what seems like an endless wedding season for all their friends. The comedy comes from the single girls trying to figure out life let alone find the right man to marry meanwhile barely surviving bridal showers and bachelorette parties and cooing over rings. Close delves into where the relationship between all the friends started and how each girl got to be where they are presently with all their emotional baggage with them.

It’s a light read, perfect for a pool or beach side day when you need a quick amusing read. It really does not go that far in and all the emotional burdens of the girls are skin deep. I’m not sure what I was expecting from it but it didn’t quite get there for me. I got distracted by all the side stories and the unnecessary background information personally but it was a fun light-hearted read. So if you need a good chuckle, perhaps you’re going through the same thing (it is wedding season by the way) and need an anti-lovey dovey book then try it out!

Has anyone else read it and had the same or different opinion? What other books are you looking forward to reading this summer?
